Braves, Sioux tie for fourth

The Class B boy’s golf teams were out and at it again last Monday as both Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg participated in the Glenburn Invitational at the Roughrider Golf Course on the Minot Air Force Base.
Bottineau shot their way to a fourth place tie with the Sioux as both team’s totaled 367 for their four-person, 18-hole score.
Zack Monson finished in sixth place individually to lead the Braves with a score of 83, while sophomore Hunter Braaten carded an 80 for the Sioux, good enough for fourth place overall.
Jack McClintock of Rugby shot a 76 to grab medalist honors. Bishop Ryan’s Kalan Elm shot a 78 to take second, and Kyle Halvorson of Rugby shot a 79 to place third.
Rugby took home the team title with a score of 330. Velva finished second at 360 and Bishop Ryan took third with a 362.
Bottineau’s 367 was was rounded out with scores from freshman Luke Amsbaugh (93), junior Taylor Parisien (95) and Brock Hiltner (96). Alex Bristol also played for Bottineau and shot a 120.
The scores of Trevor Hulse (89), Chase Conway (90) and Ben Sharkey (108) combined with Braaten’s 80 to make up the team total of 367 for the Sioux.
Also playing on the day for the Sioux were Tyler Rubbert (113) and Calvin Henry (135).
Both Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg were scheduled to play in Garrison on Friday, but weather postponed the tournament.
A make-up tournament in Rolla yesterday was attended by both teams, but scores were unavailable by press time.
The first individual qualifier for state will take place for the region on Thursday in Velva.
All of those who finish within 10 strokes of the low golfer on the day will qualify to play at the Class B boy’s state tournament on May 29-30 at Oxbow.
Girl’s play in Harvey
Bottineau’s girl’s golf team tried their luck in Harvey last Tuesday.
Only three girls from Bottineau participated, which left them out of the team total for the meet.
Rugby won the meet with a total of 404. Garrison (409) took second, and Velva’s 428 placed them third.
The three finishers for Bottineau were senior Morgan Klebe (121) and seventh grader’s Alicia Monson (129) and Abby Bristol (132).
Bottineau hosts their home invite today at Bottineau Country Club.
