In what was potentially a game to decide the top seed in the region the Bottineau Braves remained undefeated in a 7-0 win over previously unbeaten Bishop Ryan last Thursday in Surrey.
Braves senior Justin McCloud tossed a near perfect two-hit shutout in the win as the Braves bats came alive as well in a 12-hit outing.
McCloud led the charge at the plate too with a 3-for-4 day that included two runs batted in (RBI).
On the mound McCloud used an early lead to roll with momentum and struck out 11 Lions batters in the win.
The Braves capitalized on five Bishop Ryan errors in the win, while committing none themselves for the second consecutive game.
McCloud out dueled the Lions top pitcher Sheldon Marmon in the win. Marmon and the Lions dropped to 10-1, 5-1 in the region following the loss.
Bottineau also took home their sixth win earlier in the week with a 13-0 five-inning drubbing of Dunseith in Dunseith.
Sophomore Lee Schneider tossed the complete game, no-hitter for the Braves in his first start of the season.
Schneider also was perfect from the plate going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs.
Senior Mark LaCroix added four RBI on a 2-for-4 night. Freshman Brody Moum went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to round out Bottineau’s solid night from the plate.
Jaylen Davis took the loss for the Dragons as he surrendered 10 hits, and wasn’t helped out by his defense as Dunseith committed four errors in the loss.
Bottineau was scheduled to play games against Rugby and Harvey this weekend in Rugby, but the games were postponed due to weather. No reschedule date has been set yet. Bottineau also played their second game against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood-Glenburn last night, but stats were unavailable by press time.
BHS will have their next test at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Rolette. Then they travel to play against North Star at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
