With the deadline passing for election petitions on Friday afternoon the June ballot will be seeing a number of names.

CITY

In Bottineau’s city election, there will be 11 names on the ballot, which include:

  •  City Council: Greg Bernstein – four year term; Harley Getzlaff – four year term; Fred Kainz – four year term and Tim Sanderson – four year term.

Steve Brandt will run for the remaining two years of Brad Gangl’s seat.

Ron Martin and Grant Tegestad did not file petitions for their positions on the council, but Tegastad stated to the city that he will run as a write-in if voters chose to write his name on the ballot.

  •  Park Board: Karsten Bartsch – four year term; Riley Getzlaff – four year term; Mike S. Aasen – two year term and Matt Glasner – two year term.
  •  Municipal Judge: Rick Hummel
  •  Recall Election for Mayor: In this year’s city election, there will be a recall election against Mayor Doug Marsden. State law allows for a recall election to take place during the general city election, which grants any individuals who are legal residents of Bottineau to run against the individual being recalled. The individual who receives the most votes, which includes the person being recall, wins the election.

Marsden made the decision not to step down as mayor, so his name automatically was placed on the ballot for the recall election. Ben Aufforth, incumbent city council member, has made the decision to run for the position of mayor against Marsden.

In Bottineau County’s election for county commissioners, there are four people who names will appear on the ballot.

In District 2, Jeff Beyer will be the only name on the ballot.

In District 4, Verdean Kveum, Lance Kjelshus and David Clark, will be campaigning for this district seat.
In the Sixth District’s election for the Senate, Democrat Sen. David O’Connell will run against Republican candidate Pamela Smith.

For the House, Democrats, Rep. Bob Hunskor and Cindy Shattuck will be on the ballot with Republicans Myron Hanson and Dick Anderson.

The June election will take place on June 12 at the Bottineau County courthouse. Mail-in ballots will also be used during this election.
