Pioneers, Mystics hand Jacks six consecutive defeats in MonDak play

A pair of losses in a doubleheader last Friday in Bismarck put the Dakota College at Bottineau baseball team on a six-game skid.

The streak began on March 31 in the first game of a doubleheader on the first day of a road trip to Miles City.

The talented Pioneers began their four game sweep of DCB with a 6-2 win.

The Pioneers scored six times in the first inning to take a 6-2 lead, and with all goose eggs on the board after that, Miles City completed their first win.

Tyias Huck pitched all six innings for DCB, as he settled down after a rough first inning to complete the game.

Offensively Wade Haight and Drew Allan each had an RBI, while Tyler Storseth and JJ Dukes each scored for DCB.

In game two Dukes was out dueled by Kyle Solheim in a 7-1 Pioneers victory. Miles City broke the game open in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning that propelled them to a win. The Jacks had only two hits in the loss.

Day two included another doubleheader between the Jacks and Pioneers with Miles City again getting the best of DCB.

In game three against the Pioneers the Jacks again had trouble in the bottom of the third as Miles City scored five times in the inning. It put them ahead 6-2, and they did not look back finishing with an 11-2 win over DCB.

DCB’s Chad Miller, Allan, Haight and Taylor Milbrath all had hits in the loss. Miller and Cody Benson each had a run batted in (RBI) in the game.

The freshman Storseth picked up the loss for DCB as he allowed six runs (five earned) in four innings of pitching. He had four strikeouts and four walks in the loss.

The final game between the teams ended again in defeat for DCB.

The BHS graduate Milbrath suffered the loss as Miles City poured on nine runs in bottom of the third inning an the Jacks fell 11-0 in five innings.

The Jacks had only one hit in the shutout loss.

The losing luck continued for DCB this past weekend as the Jacks dropped their third consecutive

doubleheader, this time in Bismarck against the Mystics.

In game one the Mystics pounced on the Jacks pitching in the third, fourth and fifth innings scoring four, four and five times respectively in each frame to secure a 14-4 win.

Dukes took the loss for the Jacks as Brad McArthur went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs for BSC.

DCB dropped the second game as well as the Mystics used a two-run fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead and kept it to sweep the Jacks.

Brett Bryan pitched a complete game for the Mystics, and struck out 12 DCB batters.

The six-game losing streak puts the Jacks at 2-16 on the season.

The Jacks had another doubleheader scheduled against the Mystics on Saturday in Bottineau, but they were not played due to poor weather conditions.

DCB is next scheduled to play a pair of doubleheaders in Winnipeg next Saturday and Sunday against the University of Winnipeg.
