The Dakota College at Bottineau Ladyjacks season ended last Sunday with an 85-57 loss to Bismarck State College.
The loss came in the Region XIII tournament in Bismarck last Sunday.
“This was a very frustrating way for us to end our season,” stated DCB Head Coach Wayne Johnson. “We played hard but unfortunately we didn’t execute well enough to get done what we wanted.”
They Mystics jumped out to an early lead as they forced 17 turnovers by halftime. It was the fourth time that DCB had lost to the Mystics on the season.
“We struggled against their pressure and had trouble running our stuff offensively,” Johnson stated. “One statistic that tells it all was turnovers.”
Freshman Jordyn Sondrol led the Ladyjacks with 18 points and eight rebounds. The only other DCB player in double digits was Jackie Miller with 14 points.
The Ladyjacks did get to the line 28 times, which was 17 more times than the Mystics, what Johnson stated was positive. However, DCB only converted 16 of those trips, 57 percent.
The Mystics went on to face United Tribes Technical College in an intercity battle for the Region XIII title. The game was not completed by press time.
The winner of that game will advance to play the winner of Region IX in Bismarck for the District F title.
The Ladyjacks finished with a 13-18 record on the year. They will lose only one sophomore in transfer Lindsay Manning.
“While we were not satisfied with that (the season’s record) we do believe we had a productive year with some important learning taking place,” Johnson stated. “In my mind it’s now time to look ahead and get ready to 2012-13. We should have a solid nucleus to build around next year as we were mainly a freshman team.”
Notes:
Both freshmen Jackie Miller and Shakira Walker were named to the All-MonDak second team for their work during the 2011-12 campaign.
Miller led the Ladyjacks with an average of 14.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Walker averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and four assists per game.
