The Westhope-Newburg Sioux’s season ended yesterday following a 48-32 loss to the Bottineau Stars in a region qualifying game in the District 11 Tournament in Towner.
Sioux senior Kylee Conway scored nine points on three second-half three pointers in the loss, as the Sioux finished their season with a record of 8-15. Also with nine points in the loss was junior Bailey Tofteland.
The Sioux drew to within four points of the Stars in the fourth quarter, but had nearly 40 turnovers in the game, which led to the late charge by Bottineau.
The Sioux made it to Monday’s qualifier after defeating Drake-Anamoose 58-38 in Saturday’s loser out contest.
A stifling Sioux defense held the Lady Raiders to 12 first-half points and held a 32-8 halftime lead.
Despite a Raider comeback in the second half the Sioux pulled out the win.
Three Sioux were in double figures in the win as Jade Teske had 13 to lead all scorers.
Lauren Mach added 12 points, and Molly Lodoen had 10. Tofteland had nine to round out the leading scorers for Westhope-Newburg.
The tournament began for the Sioux with a 58-33 loss to second-seeded Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) in the first round on Friday.
Mattie Schmitt led TGU with 15 points as the Titans rolled past the Sioux in the contest. Tofteland had nine points to lead the Sioux.
