Sioux fall in heartbreaker

The Westhope-Newburg Sioux girl’s basketball team suffered a narrow 61-60 loss to Drake-Anamoose last Tuesday in their only game of the week.
The Sioux held the upper hand throughout most of the game in the District 11 match up, but gave up a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter as the Lady Raiders roared back for the win.
Three Sioux players finished in double figures in the loss. Junior Jade Teske led the Sioux with 16 points.
Senior Kylee Conway (11) and junior Bailey Tofteland (10) also were in double figures. Lauren Mach added nine, and Hadlee Schell had seven to round out the top scorers for the Sioux.
Chessa Baumgardner had 22 to lead the Lady Raiders to their second district win of the season.
Westhope-Newburg fell to 1-6 in District 11 play following the loss and 5-12 overall.
The Sioux will host Rolette at 7:15 p.m., tonight in Newburg. They will also host Surrey on Thursday and Glenburn on Saturday to round out their regular season schedule.
The District 11 Tournament begins on Feb. 24 in Towner. The Sioux will be the seventh seed, and will play second-seeded Towner-Granville-Upham.
