Although Dakota College at Bottineau didn’t break an enrollment record this spring semester like it did last year in January, the local college did come close to breaking its all time spring enrollment number.
“Last spring in 2011, we set an all time attendance record for head count enrollment for either a fall or spring semester,” said Dr. Ken Grosz, dean of Dakota College at Bottineau. “This spring, in 2012, we did not set a new all time record; but, we are pleased that head count numbers indicate the second highest spring enrollment ever.”
With the official spring enrollment census concluded for DCB on Feb. 7, spring enrollment was at 783 students, down 85 students from the spring enrollment of 2011, which registered 868 students.
Even though a new record was not set this spring semester at DCB, Grosz said that he is pleased with the numbers.
“Our enrollment continues to be strong, and although we work hard to maintain and increase the number of students we enroll, it isn’t realistic to set a new record each and every semester,” he said. “However, we have been on an upward trend over the last decade. For example, ten years ago the headcount enrollment for fall and spring respectively was 526 and 498. Five years later it was 605 and 619, and this year it is 812 and 783.”
Grosz added that new programming efforts and collaborative initiatives with colleges and universities in the North Dakota system is providing opportunities for Dakota College at Bottineau to serve more students into the future.
