Terry Sand has accepted a position with the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department and will serve as a deputy for the agency.

Sand was born in Bismarck and raised in Tuttle, N.D. He is a 2002 graduate of Tuttle/Pettibone High School, and received his associate degree in wildlife, fisheries and management from Dakota College at Bottineau in 2004. He went on to Valley City State College where in 2008 he earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife, fisheries and management. In 2009, Sand graduated from the police academy at Lake Region College in Devils Lake.

From the police academy, he accepted a position with the Long Lake Wildlife Refuge at Moffit, N.D. Later that year, he became a deputy for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department before accepting his position with the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department in January of this year.

Sand made the decision to come to Bottineau because of his first experience of living in Bottineau as a college student.

“I really enjoyed Bottineau when I was here and I wanted to come back here,” Sand said. “I also wanted a different experience and be given the opportunity in getting to know a lot more people here.”
