Stars fall to Panthers, Spoilers

The Bottineau Stars lost twice over the past week including a 40-30 loss to district rival Rugby on Tuesday night.

The other loss came at the hands of the state-ranked Grafton Spoilers 55-35 on Saturday afternoon.
Tuesday the game couldn’t have started worse as the Stars failed to score in the first quarter falling into a nine-point hole.

Bottineau failed to recover from the hole falling by 10. The Stars shot a dismal 31 percent from the field.
Leaders for the Stars were Katryna Hahn (11 points, two steals), Whitney Page (eight points, seven rebounds, four steals) and Heidi Artz (five points, five steals).

Saturday the Stars traveled to Grafton to take on the fourth-ranked Spoilers. Bottineau again had a poor first quarter to fall behind 19-4.

Grafton’s lead expanded from there on out and ended in a 20-point defeat for the Stars.

Hanna and Cassie Thompson combined for 28 points for the Spoilers who improved to 10-1 with the win.
Bottineau was led by Page who had nine points. Freshman Stephanie Brenden had seven points, Artz had six and Hahn and Danielle McDonald each had five points.

The Stars dropped to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in District 11 play with the week’s losses.

Bottineau will continue its trek through the district with games against Westhope-Newburg and Velva.

The Stars will travel to Westhope to play a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Sioux tonight.

Bottineau will host Velva on Thursday night to close out their week.
