Sucessful season for the skating club

The Bottineau Figure Skating Club has completed its competition season, which took its skaters into state and international competitions that brought the club award winning results.

“This year we had 44 skaters in our program, an increase again over last year,” said Carrie Tweed, head coach of the Bottineau Figure Skating Club. “We had 12 skaters go to competition this year and they all did very well. They represented the Bottineau Figure Skating Club very nicely and came home with lots of medals. We are very proud of each of them.”

On Jan 7 and 8, the club participated in the Skate Virden Figure Skating Competition in Virden, MB, with the following results:

  •  Canskate Stage 3: Makenna Coleman – Second Place, Morgan Wallin – Third Place, and Elizabeth Waagen – Fifth Place.
  • Canskate Stage 5: Emma Haberman – First Place.    
  • Entry Level Freeskate: Therese Haberman – Third Place.
  • Entry Level Compulsory: Therese Haberman – Second Place.
  • Preliminary Freeskate: Morgan Haerer – Second Place.
  • Preliminary Compulsory: Morgan Haerer – Seventh Place.
  • Canskate Team 1: Elizabeth Waagen, Rayna Mortenson, Makenna Coleman, and Tess Mortenson – Fourth Place.
  • Canskate Team 2: Morgan Wittmayer, Morgan Wallin, Delani Tweed and Emma Haberman – Fifth Place.   

In the Capital City Championship in Bismarck on Jan. 15, BFSC had the following results:

  • Basic 2 Freeskate: Morgan Wallin – First Place, Morgan Wittmayer – Second Place and Rayna Mortenson – Third Place.
  • Basic 2 Compulsory: Rayna Mortenson – First Place, Morgan Wallin – Second Place and Morgan Wittmayer – Third Place.
  • Basic 3 Freeskate: Elizabeth Waagen – First Place, Makenna Coleman – Third Place, and Delani Tweed – Third Place.
  • Basic 3 Compulsory: Elizabeth Waagen – First Place, Makenna Coleman – Second Place and Delani Tweed – Third Place.
  • Basic 3 Artistic: Elizabeth Waagen – Second Place.
  • Basic 5 Freeskate: Tess Mortenson – Third Place.
  • Basic 5 Compulsory: Tess Mortenson – Second Place.
  • Basic 8 Freeskate: Emma Haberman – Third Place and Lexius Davis - Fifth Place.
  • Basic 8 Compulsory: Emma Haberman – First Place and Lexius Davis – Third Place.
  • Basic 8 Artistic: Emma Haberman – Second Place.

Samantha Waagen gained the “Sonja Heenie Hat Trick” placing first in the Freeskate 3, Freeskate 3 Compulsory and Freeskate 3 Artistic, while Therese Haberman earned the Heenie Hat Trick placing first in the Freeskate 4, Freeskate 4 Compulsory and Freeskate 4 Artistic.

In the Carbury, MB, competition on Jan. 15,  Morgan Haerer placed first in the Spins Program and earned second place in the Freeskate competition.

Outside of Tweed, three other coaches assisted the skaters to their successful season.

“We added two new coaches this year, which include Jenny Patterson and Jessica Tagestad, who paired up with returning coach Melissa Eberts,” Tweed said. “This has been very beneficial to the club and we are extremely happy to have them on board.”
