Jonathan Tofteland has accepted a position with North Dakota Game and Fish and will serve the agency as its game warden in the Bottineau area.

Tofteland was born in Bottineau. He was raised in Landa until he was seven years old when his family moved to Glenburn. Tofteland graduated from Glenburn High School in 2003 and received his associate degree in fish and wildlife management from Dakota College at Bottineau in 2005. He went on to Valley City State College where in 2008 he earned a bachelor’s degree in fish and wildlife science. In 2009, Tofteland graduated from the police academy at Lake Region College in Devils Lake.

From the police academy, he immediately accepted a position with the Renville County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. In 2010, Tofteland became a deputy for the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department, a position he held until October 2011 when he transferred over to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department.

Accepting the game warden position with Game and Fish has been a lifelong dream for Tofteland.

“This is the job I’ve always wanted to do,” Tofteland said. “And luckily, it is in the same area I’ve always wanted to serve in. I enjoy the Bottineau area because it has the Turtle Mountains, which has your fishing, your snowmobiling and a lot of different hunting right in the middle of everything. And, the people are really nice here.”

As a game warden, Tofteland will be responsible for all of Bottineau County and up to Highway 281 in Rolette County.

Tofteland has been in Bismarck since October training with North Dakota Game and Fish. He will begin his position as the area’s game warden immediately, which he is eager to start. “I’m excited to be here and to get started,” he said.
