The Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks could not quite keep up with MonDak opponent Bismarck State this past Friday at the Turtle Mountain Community College Shootout.

The Mystics capitalized on their free throw opportunities at the end of the game to close out the Jacks 103-89.

“The ending score certainly wasn’t indicative of how close the game truly was,” Jacks Head Coach Ken Keysor stated. “Once again dribble penetration seems to be our nemisis. We gave up too many drives to the basket and then fouled to top it off.”

The Mystics hit 26-of-38 free throw chances and shot 60 percent from the field to best the Jacks.
Rebounding was also an issue for the Jacks according to Keysor.

“Another area of concern was rebounding edge of 33-44. We need to secure the ball with better authority,” Keysor stated.

Freshman Jayden McMillin, fresh off an athlete of the week nod in the MonDak, had another stellar night scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 boards.
Cameron Malzer was also effective with 18 points and six assists.

Also in double digits were sophomores James Odneal (18 points, 10 boards) and Jeremy Chambers (11 points, four assists).

“We felt good about our effort, but not pleased with the result,” Keysor stated. “We know that it wasn’t a conference game so both teams certainly have some things they didn’t show, but at least we know that our games that do count in the conference will be knock down drag out affairs.”

The two teams met up again last night at the Woodshed, but scores were unavailable at press time.

The loss dropped the Jacks to 8-10 on the season. DCB will play at North Dakota State College of Science at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening.
