The Bottineau Stars evened their record on the hardwood to 3-3 with a 37-28 win over Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood last Tuesday night in Bottineau.

“It is always nice to get a win for motivation,” Page said. “When you win you want to practice harder.”

The Stars used some stifling defense to ramble past the Mavericks. The Stars jumped out to an early lead holding the Mavericks scoreless for nearly five minutes to begin the game and leading 10-2 through the first quarter.

The Mavericks made a comeback in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to five at one point, but the Stars’ Katryna Hahn shut the door with 13 points.

Senior Whitney Page added nine as the Stars came out on top by nine for their third win of the season.

“It gives us confidence,” Page said of the win. “I know they (Mavericks) are young, but everyone is pretty equal this year.”

Page also said the close wins the Stars have gotten this season especially against region opponents like the Mavericks could help the Stars later on down the road.

“It gives us the preparation we need, because come tournament time there are going to be those close games where we are going to need to pull through,” Page said. “Games like this are really good for us, but we should have probably had more points, but we need to learn to convert more on the boards.”

Page was also a big help on the defensive side of the ball, despite some foul trouble. She picked up her third foul early in the third quarter and her fourth at the beginning of the last quarter.

“We had good defense tonight, but we got in a little foul trouble, but I guess you’re not working hard enough if you don’t foul,” Page said.

The Stars seemed more comfortable in their offensive sets, which is something Page said they have been working on. The Stars know the defense will be there, but they need to learn to make the right moves on offense.

“We still need to work on getting into our offense,” Page said. “We are getting better at cutting, getting to the gaps and stuff, but it comes in practice and we work on it every day.”

Bottineau attempted to get win number four last night in Langdon, but scores were unavailable by press time.

The busy week will continue for the Stars who will also host Towner-Granville-Upham at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and will play at New Town on Saturday afternoon.
