Greg Bernstein was unanimously approved by the city council on Jan. 3 to fill the Ward I council seat which was left open in November of 2011 after Andy Freeman moved out of the ward.
Bernstein was born and raised in the Souris area. He is a 1988 Bottineau High School graduate and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcasting with a minor in psychology from the University of North Dakota.
After graduating from UND, Bernstein accepted employment at Sea World, Bush Gardens and Bob Cat before joining the State Bank of Bottineau as its information technology officer just over two years ago.
Bernstein said that he volunteered his service to the council because he wants to assist the city he is living in.
“I have been looking for an opportunity to be more active in the community,” Bernstein said.
Bernstein will fill the remainder of Freeman’s term, which will end in June of this year. At that time, Bernstein, if he chooses, will have to run for re-election for the seat he now holds.
Residents in Ward I, who wish to contact Bernstein on city business, can do so by calling (701) 308-0563.
Bernstein is the son of David and Faye Bernstein.
