The Dakota College at Bottineau basketball team will head into the semester break on a good note.

That is because the Lumberjacks won their second straight game over Turtle Mountain Community College last Monday, Dec. 12 by a score of 89-76.

“We ended the first half of the season with a win,” DCB Head Coach Ken Keysor stated. “It might not have been very pretty, but we were successful.”

The Jacks jumped all over the Mikinocks early taking a big lead out the gate, and a 19-point lead entering halftime.

The Mikinocks made it interesting in the second half thanks to a 35-point night for Shawn Knife, but the Jacks held on for a 13-point win.

Despite the win, Keysor still has some concerns.

“We still have the same concerns as before. We go into a lull offensively and we need to make sure we continue to flow instead of stand,” Keysor stated. “This is the second game in a row where we need to be more aware of where the shooters or scorers are and not let them get north and south on us.”

The sophomore duo of Cameron Malzer and Josh Vedaa paved the way for the Jacks. Malzer finished with 24 points and six assists, while Vedaa had 22 points, including three from long range.
Freshman Jayden McMillin recorded his sixth double-double of the year with a 16 points, 10 rebound outing.

Freshman Tyler Storseth had his best outing of the season dropping eight points and seven rebounds against the Mikinocks.

The Jacks improved to 7-8 on the year with the win.

“We will now have a few weeks off and we need to get everyone over the cold/flu bug that has been around,” Keysor stated.

The Jacks will open the second half of their season on Jan. 6 with a trip to the Northland Classic in Minneosta.
