Tim Sanderson, on Monday evening during the city council meeting, requested the Ward I seat that is presently open because former Councilman Andy Freeman has moved out of his ward. However, his request was denied.
After the council this fall voted to have the city election at-large, instead of by wards, Sanderson made a bid for Freeman’s seat.

However, according to Swain Benson III, Sanderson can not hold a seat in Ward I because when Freeman ran for his seat, he was elected by his ward, and not at-large.
Benson added that until the first at-large election, all seats on the council elected by a ward will have to be a resident from that ward to fill the position.
