It was a fun-filled evening at Bottineau’s annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas tree lighting ceremony when a good group of individuals came downtown this past Wednesday evening to watch the city’s Christmas tree be lit for the kick-off of the holiday season.

Community residents and visitors to Bottineau surrounded the Christmas tree at 6 p.m. to watch Chamber director, Clint Reinoehl, lit the tree, which decked out the downtown business district with an array of colorful lighting.

After lighting the Christmas tree, those in attendance sang Christmas carols and then walked over to the city armory for hot apple cider and coffee.

The guests to the event were also given the opportunity to have their picture taken with Bottineau’s famous winter wonderland set.

Leona Moe donated this year’s Christmas tree to the city, which is a Colorado Spruce. The tree was located on Bennett Street and measured 45 feet in height when the city crew cut it down this past week. The tree’s base was so large the city crew had to cut the tree down to 25 feet to fit it inside the tree stand.

“It’s sure a nice tree,” said Keith Fulsebakke, city superintendent of Bottineau. “It was kind of Mrs. Moe to give it to the city for the holiday season.”

The city is asking that while the Christmas Tree is standing in the downtown business section, individuals should follow the traffic rules that have been placed on the tree’s stand. The city is also asking people to refrain from pulling on the light strings or breaking the bulbs on the tree while driving by the tree.

Bottineau’s Christmas Tree is located in the intersection of Main and Sixth Street.
