March of Hope, in association with Walmart, is currently raising money through the holiday season to assist cancer victims in the local area.

Carla Eisenzimmer, Mary Watson and Gail Wondrasek-Lane, co-founders of the March of Hope, have created the “Buck a Bow” program, which allows grade school children in the Bottineau School District to purchase a Christmas bow for $1, which will then be placed on a Christmas tree that will be on stage when the elementary and middle school kids perform in their annual Christmas program.

Watson came up with the Buck a Bow idea.

“We are always thinking of different ideas, and all at once I came with the idea of Buck a Bow. The kids buy a bow and they get to put it on a tree,” Watson said. “Each bow represents a donation that goes to March for Hope.”

The money that the students raise will go to the Turtle Mountains Cancer Support, Inc., which grants money to local individuals who have cancer.
March of Hope has a Christmas tree at Central School, Middle School and one in the Holwell Auditorium.

Walmart donated the Christmas tree that stands in the Holwell, and on Friday morning, Jeff Shriver, manager of Bottineau’s Walmart, placed the first bow on the tree.

March of Hope is a group which plans and conducts events to raise money for cancer victims.

At the present moment, the group is planning the next March of Hope Walk, which is going to look a little different from the previous years.

“We are bringing back the walk,” Eisenzimmer said. “The walk is going to change a little, so everybody is going to have to wait and see what surprises we have for them in June.”

March of Hope does welcome donations. Individuals, who wish to make a donation, can send it to the school by addressing it to March of Hope in care of Eisenzimmer, Watson or Wondrasek-Lane.
