The United Parish Church of Bottineau wishes to extend a warm welcome to individuals in and around Bottineau for its Ninth Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24.

According to Ron Martin, co-founder of the community Thanksgiving meal, who assisted in establishing the Thanksgiving dinner in 2002 for college students, the elderly and new members of the community who do not have family to spend the holiday with in Bottineau. Eight years later, that tradition continues.

“It is a holiday and some people have no place to go,” Martin said. “This meal is to prevent people from being alone during the holiday.”

The community meal comes directly from the community. Each Thanksgiving season, community individuals, groups, organizations and church members have volunteered their time, donated food and granted funding for the event.

This year’s dinner will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and the meal is free to the public. The church this year will be serving turkey with all the traditional trimmings of a Thanksgiving meal.

United Parish is asking individuals to make reservations prior to attending the dinner. They would appreciate that in order to know how much they will have to prepare for the event. However, reservations are not necessary to attend the event.

Transportation is also available. Individuals, who wish to gain more information regarding the event, make a reservation, need transportation, or wish to volunteer their services, can call Martin at (701) 228-2178.

“Anyone who is going to be alone this Thanksgiving, we welcome you to attend the community Thanksgiving dinner,” Martin said.
