Eagles season ends at districts

The Newburg-Westhope Eagles season came to an end last night as the Eagles fell in a tight region qualifier game in the District 11 tournament against Drake-Anamoose.
The sixth-seeded Eagles took the four-seed Lady Raiders to five sets, but could not advance losing 15-8 in the final set.
Newburg-Westhope lost 25-14 in both games one and three, but rallied back both times to win games two (27-25) and four (25-22).
The Eagles tournament began Thursday as they were swept by third-seeded Rugby, despite a valiant effort.
The Eagles fell 25-19, 25-13 and 27-25, but played some of their best volleyball of the season, especially in the final set.
Junior Hadlee Schell was impressive for the Eagles with eight kills, four blocks and eight digs, all team highs.
Rugby’s Abbey Paul had seven kills and four blocks to lead the Panthers.
Following Thursday’s loss the Eagles bounced back with a 3-1 win over seventh-seeded Sawyer.
Newburg-Westhope jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with 25-12 and 25-17 wins in the first two sets.
The Flashes snuck out a close third game, but the Eagles rebounded with a 25-21 win in game four to advance to the district tournament’s final day.
Again Schell was the leader for the Eagles; she had 11 kills and 13 digs on the day. Senior Taylor Kersten had four aces to help the Eagles in the win.
For her efforts Schell was named to the All-District 11 team.
The Eagles also played on Monday and Tuesday to begin the week.
Newburg-Westhope dropped both of the non-conference match ups.
First on Monday the Eagles hosted Berthold in Westhope.
The match was all Berthold, as they swept the Eagles. Scores were unavailable.
Tuesday the Eagles dropped another match as they hosted Rolette in Newburg on senior night.
The Eagles were swept for the second consecutive match as Rolette rolled past the Eagles in three consecutive sets.
The match was all Comets as they won 25-11, 25-15 and 25-15 in the Eagles final regular season game. Stats were unavailable.
The 1-4 week pushed the Eagles final record to 5-22 for the season.
