The Bottineau Airport in
recent weeks has seen a great
deal of construction work, which
in the end will assist local pilots
and the airport in meeting their
present needs.
Currently, the airport is seeing
the construction of two hangers.
One is a privately owned hanger,
while the other hanger is being
built by the airport. “We have a
long list of individuals who want
to have a hanger to place their
airplanes in, so it was decided
to build an additional hanger
to provide rental space,” said
Curt Aalund, manager of the
Bottineau Airport.
The public hanger is located
on the southwest end of the
airport and will be 4,900 square
feet. Once completed, it will be
able to hold four airplanes.
The hanger will house a
carousel floor, which is a floor
that moves and allows pilots
to pull their airplane from the
hanger without having to move
another pilot’s plane.
“It is a different hanger than
what you normally see in this
area,” Aalund said. “In fact, the
closest airport to have this type
of hanger is over in Carrington.”
The estimated cost of the
hanger is over $200,000. The
finances are being provided
through three different sources.
“The majority of the hanger’s
cost is funded by federal taxes,
which will cover 95 percent of
the cost,” Aalund said. “Two
and a half percent will be
covered by state funding, while
the remaining two and a half
percent will be covered by the
airport.”
Aalund said the hanger
should be completed by the end
of the year.
“I’m excited to see the finished
product,” he said. “It is going
to provide a better service for
us and for those who use the
airport.”
