The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) women’s basketball team celebrated a banner day on Monday afternoon.
Three sophomore Ladyjacks signed letters of intent to play next season for NCAA schools. What made the day even more special for DCB was that two of its players became the Ladyjack basketball program’s first-ever signees to NCAA Division I institutions.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Frazier (Dillon, S.C.), a NJCAA Division II All-American this past season for DCB, made official on Monday her decision to transfer to Savannah State University in Georgia. The Lady Tigers are fresh off winning their first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament title and earning a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament.
Another sophomore guard, Imani Scott (Akron, Ohio), will be playing for the next two seasons at Valparaiso University, a private school in Indiana. Scott will be expected to immediately help a Crusaders team that finished last season with a 6-24 record and a first-round loss at Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 9 in the Horizon League tournament.
Sophomore center and Bottineau High alumna Whitney Brandvold also put pen to paper on Tuesday, signing for NCAA Division III school Iowa Wesleyan College. The Tigers finished their 2014-15 season with a 19-7 overall record while going 15-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play.
“This is a huge day for our program,” DCB head coach Wayne Johnson said. “It’s the first two Division I signees we’ve ever had, and to have three NCAA signees today, it’s a very proud day for us.”
