Two local women from Bottineau have been chosen to have their art displayed at the Hyatt House in Minot during 2015 and they will bring a variety of art forms to the Hyatt House for art admires to see.
Carrie Cote-Grindeland and Diane Lindquist have both accepted requests from the Hyatt House to display their art work. Cote-Grindeland, who has been an artist since she was 11 years-old, was contacted by the Hyatt House after seeing some of her art work.
Growing up on a farm in Willow City, Cote-Grindeland stated that as a child there were not a lot of opportunities to learn about art or take lessons. To resolve that problem she spent her spare time looking at Prairie Public televisions’ art lesson shows.
“I watched a lot of Channel 6 back in those days,” Cote-Grindeland said.
She paints a number of wildlife prints, landscapes, portraits and other pieces.
Cote-Grindeland was chosen to have her art displayed at the Hyatt House this month (April) where large crowds have viewed her exhibit.
“I was nervous when they called because I have never done anything like this before,” Cote-Grindeland said. “But, it’s been good and I have enjoyed it. I have met some nice people and other artists.”
Lindquist, who is 62, just started painting last June.
“I just needed a change in my life and I had been dealing Blackjack and I was done with that job, and I was thinking about what I was going to do with my life,” Lindquist said. “So, I was driving by Elrita Nelson’s house and she had an easel sitting outside of her house. I stopped and asked her what she wanted for her easel and Elrita told me just to take it. Well, I set it out on the deck a couple of weeks and I thought to myself I should paint one of these days. So, I went up to Karens (the spectrum) and bought $100 of paints and stuff and sat down and started painting.”
Lindquist specializes in abstracts and flowers.
Lindquist’s exhibit will take place during the entire month of June at the Hyatt House.
“I am a little nervous myself, but I am sure it will go well,” Lindquist said.
During this year, the Hyatt House will be displaying the art of one area artists in its hotel. The exhibit is free and individuals can visit the artist’s exhibit at any time during the day.
The Hyatt House is located at 2301 Landmark Drive NW.
