If this past youth hockey season has indicated anything, it’s that the future of the sport in Bottineau is very bright.
The Bottineau Atom Purple hockey team recently finished its 2014-15 season with a pair of titles.
Bottineau pulled off the feat by claiming the South West Recreational Hockey League (SWRHL) Atom B championship as well as the Northern Lights Tournament title last month in Grafton.
Bottineau won the SWRHL title after winning a best-of-three semifinal series against Shilo and another best-of-three set in the final against Virden. Shilo fell in two games before Bottineau bounced back from a 7-5 loss in Game 2 of the final series to win 3-1 in Game 3.
At the Grafton tournament, Bottineau downed Park River 12-8 in an opening-round game. Rugby then fell 7-1 to Bottineau before Bottineau defeated Manvel 6-5 to win the tournament title.
The Bottineau team, led by head coach Andy Freeman, finished its 2014-15 season with a 17-6-1 overall record.
This year’s Bottineau Novice Purple team was made up of Olivia Danley, Easton Freeman, Gabriel Deschamp, Michael Costa, Blake Lunde, Colton Getzlaff, Jacob Defoe, Jacob Shriver, Ethan Siemens, Emma Rybchinski, Brooks Siemens, Ryland Danley, Kieran Defoe and Maddison Thompson.
