The city of Bottineau saw an increase in city sales tax during the first quarter of 2015 when compared to the same period in 2014.

According to city’s sale tax documents, sales tax for the first quarter in 2015 totaled $283,152.74, while the first three months of 2014 saw the city earned 254,134.77, which is a 13.334 percent increase from this year to last in the first quarter.

The following show the 2015 and 2014 numbers:

2015:

Jan. - $98,605.53
Feb. - $88,712.10
March - $95,835.11

2014:

Jan. - $90,509.49
Feb. - $108,499.60
March - $55,125.68

As to why there is an increase in sales tax compared to last year, it is uncertain because when the financial information comes to the city auditor’s office the numbers are private and do not tell the specific area the sale tax is coming from in the business section.

However, the increase in sales tax has placed the city in preparation of going over the $1 million mark in a 12 month period, which has happened in the past two years.
