Bottineau native and Iowa State University hockey player Seth Serhienko didn’t finish his collegiate career the way he’d wanted to: With a national championship.

He did, however, end his time as a Cyclone with an individual honor to his name.

Serhienko, a forward for ISU for the past two seasons and for Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) before that, saw his Cyclones fall on March 8 in the second round of the ACHA Men’s Division I National Tournament.

The Cyclones (24-14-3-3) defeated Oklahoma 3-1 on March 7 in the tournament’s first round before falling 5-3 to Central Oklahoma the next day.

Last Tuesday, Serhienko was named as an honorable mention on the ACHA all-tournament team.

Serhienko picked up the primary assist on the game-winning goal against OU on March 7. He then picked up a second assist of the tournament against Central Oklahoma.

ISU head coach Jason Fairman believes Serhienko was deserving of the honor.

“I think he can be very proud how he’s finished his career and the way he’s played this past year,” Feldman said.

“This is a nice honor for Seth, because he’s had a great senior season and I think he really developed as a player in all areas of the ice.”
