A local Bottineau woman has been found guilty of theft concerning an elderly couple. She cared for the wife in the couple’s home.
Susana Moncera was found guilty on three counts of theft of property in Bottineau’s District Court for utililizing a credit card from an elderly couple whom she was hired to grant in house care to.
Court documents reveal that on Aug. 4 and 5 Moncera went to Bottineau’s Walmart and Cenex stores and used the couple’s Discover card to steal a total of $800 from the couple.
She first went to Walmart on Aug. 4 and acquired $300. On the same day, she went to Cenex and stole another $200. On Aug. 5, she went back to Walmart and obtained another $300.
Moncera was able to steal the money by changing the PIN numbers of the card.
In court, under Judge Michael Sturdevant of the Northeast Judicial District Court, Moncera pleaded guilty to the three counts.
Sturdevant sentenced Moncera to one year in the Bottineau County Jail with one year suspended for a period of two years. She also received two years supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution and fines that equal $1,360.
Moncera also faced a charge of forgery or counterfeiting, but the charge was dismissed.
