BEATRICE, Neb. - The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) women’s basketball team hoped to make a return trip this year to the NJCAA Division II national championship tournament, but it wasn’t to be.
The Ladyjacks fell 69-53 to Southeast (Neb.) Community College on Sunday in the teams’ NJCAA District F championship game in Beatrice, Neb. Southeast opened well in the game on the Lady Storm’s home court, opening up a 38-25 halftime lead before holding the Ladyjacks off in the second half.
DCB sophomore guard Chelsea Frazier and Ladyjacks freshman forward Mattie Schmitt finished Sunday’s game with a team-high 14 points apiece. Division II All-American guard Imani Scott was held to eight points.
The Ladyjacks (22-11) lose four sophomores from this season’s team: Frazier, Scott, Zirahuen Hernandez and Bottineau’s Whitney Brandvold.
