MINOT - Bottineau High’s boys basketball team saw its 2014-15 season end on Monday afternoon when the Braves fell 65-45 to Berthold at the Minot State University Dome.
BHS had faced the Bombers once before this season. Berthold downed the Braves relatively easily by a 94-59 count in Berthold back on Jan. 10.
The teams’ rematch was a closer affair, and Bottineau started it brightest. The Braves opened on an 8-2 run in the first two minutes of Monday’s game, thus forcing Berthold into a timeout to regroup.
Not only did the Bombers regroup during that breather, but they also looked reenergized once the game restarted. Berthold went on a 9-0 run of its own to erase Bottineau’s early lead before holding a 35-24 lead over the Braves at halftime.
Berthold senior guard Austin Lee was a big reason why his team led at the break. Twenty-one points from Lee in the first two quarters led all scorers.
Lee was then limited to just five points in the second half, but Bottineau was unable to find a way back into the game. The Bombers outscored Bottineau 21-10 in the third quarter and cruised the rest of the way.
Bottineau junior guard Parker Engelhard led the Braves on Monday with 14 points. Senior BHS forward Alex Bristol finished close behind with 11.
The Braves, which ended their season on Monday with an 8-14 record, now lose two seniors in Bristol and center Jacob Kvernum.
