MINOT - The Westhope-Newburg (W-N) girls’ basketball team saw its 2014-15 season come to a close on Monday afternoon at the Class B Region 6 tournament.
The Sioux, who finished with the No. 4 seed from District 11, faced top-ranked Minot Bishop Ryan in the first round of the regional tournament at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. W-N was easily swept aside by the heavily-favored Lady Lions, who won by a 78-26 count.
Bishop Ryan controlled the game from the beginning. W-N trailed the Lady Lions 30-3 at the end of the first quarter and was unable to find a way back into the contest.
Morgan Kersten led the Sioux on Monday with a team-high nine points. Abbie Jiles and Mayce Brodehl finished close behind with five apiece.
W-N (12-11) loses four seniors: Amber Hall, Halima Khalifa, Molly Lodoen and Lauren Mach.
