MINOT - On March 10 of last year, Bottineau High’s girls’ basketball team saw its 2013-14 season end thanks to a 50-36 defeat to Berthold in the first round of the Class B Region 6 tournament.

Unfortunately for BHS, history repeated itself on Monday night in Minot. The Bombers pushed the Stars into the offseason once more at the Minot Municipal Auditorium, this time downing BHS by a 59-35 count.

Berthold opened Monday’s game by jumping out to a 14-6 lead through the first eight minutes before taking a healthy 29-15 advantage into the halftime break.

The Bombers kept their feet on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring Bottineau 20-6 in that frame. BHS won Monday’s fourth quarter by a 15-10 count, but Berthold had long ago done enough to ensure safe passage into the Region 6 semifinals.

Bottineau senior forward Stephanie Brenden led the Stars on Monday with 14 points in her final game for BHS. Freshman Sydnie Nelson contributed nine points to the cause.

Bottineau, which had clinched the No. 3 seed from District 11 at the district tournament in Velva two weekends ago, finished its 2014-15 season with an 11-12 record.

The Stars reached the Region 6 tournament after defeating Towner-Granville-Upham (T-G-U) and Sawyer in the District 11 tournament.

BHS loses four seniors: Brenden, Maria Diepolder, Kennedy Olson and Taisyn St. Claire.
