Dakota College at Bottineau’s (DCB) men’s basketball team fell to its second and third consecutive defeats last week against Dawson Community College (Mont.) and the junior varsity team from Concordia (Minn.).

The Lumberjacks hosted Dawson on Wednesday at the Woodshed but couldn’t make their home-court advantage count. Instead, the Buccaneers rolled out of Bottineau with a 91-78 victory.

Dawson only led 44-38 at halftime, but the Buccaneers exploded early in the second half and led by as much as 24 points.

“The effort coming out in the second half after halftime was awful and it took us getting behind 24 points to finally start playing again,” DCB head coach Brandon Colvin said.

“When you’re down by that much with seven minutes to go, there’s not a ton you can do against a team like that to get back into the game, but the effort got better as the half went along, but you can’t start out a second half of a college basketball game in the way we did.”

DCB guard Jalyn Turner led both teams with 30 points in the losing effort.

The Lumberjacks then traveled to Moorhead, Minn., last weekend for a Sunday afternoon meeting with Concordia. The Cobbers won by a 64-63 count, erasing the memory of a 107-90 loss in Bottineau on Nov. 22.

DCB (16-11) visited North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) on Monday after press time. The Jacks will host Lake Region State on Thursday at 8 p.m.
