The Bottineau High School chapter of the Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter has been busy lately, and it’s about to become even busier.
The group held events at BHS last week surrounding FCCLA Week, a five-day event observed by over 200,000 FCCLA students across the country.
Bottineau FCCLA advertised the week’s events on the group’s Facebook page on Monday as well as within BHS. On Tuesday, FCCLA members encouraged their fellow students to work in pairs to twin with each other in a show of partner advocacy.
The group also held a bake sale at BHS’s boys’ basketball game on Tuesday against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (M-L-S). Proceeds from the sale went to a fund set up to help pay for a trip to the state FCCLA convention in Bismarck April 12-13.
On Wednesday, FCCLA students encouraged their classments to wear red on the annual “Red Out for FCCLA” day, and the FCCLA students also wore FCCLA shirts last Friday. Before that, though, BHS FCCLA student sponsored a “Throwback Thursday” at the school in which students could dress up in their favorite clothing inspired from a particular decade.
Tomorrow, seven BHS FCCLA members will travel to Harvey for the district Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events, which make up a day-long competition between schools’ FCCLA chapters.
BHS FCCLA student president Alyssa Millang will head up the group along with Jamie Vandal, Michael Sorenson, Judith Thompson, Kelsey Morris, Evan Brudwick and Mariah Evans.
Two groups of BHS FCCLA students will compete in team competitions in Harvey. The district winners will compete in April at the state convention in Bismarck, and winners there will move on to the national FCCLA competition in Washington, D.C., in July.
