Valentine’s Day rush a lot to handle

Business is never better for most floral and gift shops than it is around Valentine’s Day, and one such shop in Bottineau has proven to be no exception.
Turtle Mountain Floral and Gift Shoppe is the go-to place in the Bottineau area for botanical gifts as well as other merchandise. The shop at 513 Main Street was especially busy last week as its employees - including several seasonal ones - worked to fulfill orders ahead of Valentine’s Day, which took place this year on Saturday.
There are several holidays each year that the shop is busy fulfilling orders for. However, Diann Beckman, the shop’s owner for the past 12 years, said that customers take a different approach to their Valentine’s Day shopping.
“It’s the biggest holiday for us, and then there’s Mother’s Day and Christmas, but really Christmas is spread out over a whole month,” Beckman said on Thursday. “This is more of a one or two-day thing and people want to get their gifts on the day itself.
“It’s on a Saturday this year so we’re trying to encourage Friday purchases, and we always encourage doing it the day before to spread it out a little bit because, with as much product as we sell around Valentine’s Day, it’s almost impossible to get it all out on the day because there’s just so much.”
Red roses are the shop’s biggest Valentine’s Day seller, Beckman said. The shop also sold many other types of holiday-related merchandise, including other types of floral arrangements and stuffed animals.
The shop normally has two full-time and two part-time employees, but 12 employees, including seasonal workers, were there on Friday and Saturday.
