Bottineau’s city council met on Feb. 3 and discussed a number of city projects that will take place this summer.
Matt Johnson of Wold Engineering gave updates on the following projects:
● Lagoon Expansion Project: The plan for the land for the expansion project has been filed, while the deed and first right of refusal is presently being prepared. Plans and specs will be ready for March’s city council meeting.
● Water Line Loop Phase III: Wold Engineering is presently working on the plans and specs, which will be presented in March’s city council meeting.
● Chip Seal Project: Sinclair Street, along with the side streets from Ohmer Street to Main Street will be chip sealed this summer with a fog coating added at the same time.
The 2015 street paving projects was also discussed by the council and it was decided by the aldermen to pass a special assessment share of the project which calls for no bonding and allowing property owners to sign a petition in favor of paving being conducted instead of taking the traditional manner of numerous chronological steps and public hearings.
In other city news, a request was made by a business in the community to rent a portion of the city’s new city office, the State Bank of Bottineau on Thompson Street, which will become the property of the city after the State Bank moves to its new building on Highway 5.
The council members turned down the business’ request to rent because the aldermen stated the city isn’t in favor of renting property owned by the city.
An individual in the city made a request to have the city purchase back an additional garbage can the person purchased for his home. The individual is moving from the community and has owned the garbage can for only a short period of time and requested a portion of the money be returned back to him.
The council made the decision that there would be no refunds on garbage cans purchased by the city.
CITY SIGN
The new city sign west of Bottineau is currently being completed after an extended period of time due to Joe Whetter having a number of projects that he has been completing. The sign has been surrounded by a shelter to keep the sign dry and warm so the project can be completed.
