The Bottineau High girls’ basketball team won two of its three games last week, including a victory over District 11 rival Towner-Granville-Upham (T-G-U).
Before that, though, BHS’s busy week began on Tuesday at home against Rolette-Wolford. It was there against the Comets that Bottineau triumphed 56-50, thus picking up its second win in a row and third victory in four games.
Senior center Kennedy Olson led the Stars with a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds.
Another BHS senior, guard Stephanie Brenden, also finished the game in double-digits in scoring. Brenden ended Tuesday’s game with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and as many steals.
STARS TOP TITANS
Bottineau then visited T-G-U on Thursday for the Stars’ third District 11 game of the season. BHS upped its district record to 2-1 against the Titans thanks to a 70-37 rout in Towner.
Four Stars finished the win over T-G-U in double-digits in scoring. Brenden was the most impressive of bunch, finishing the game with a double-double - posting double-digit numbers in two statistical categories - by recording 19 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists and four steals.
Olson and senior guard Taisyn St. Claire both recorded 15 points in the win over the Titans. Junior forward Jocelyn Jahner also had a big game in Towner with 11 points.
LIONS DOWN STARS
Bottineau then ended a very busy week on Saturday on the road against a very difficult opponent in the form of top-ranked Minot Bishop Ryan.
Bishop Ryan hasn’t had much trouble so far this season, with its only loss to date coming against Class A’s Fargo Shanley on Dec. 27. The Lions didn’t have much trouble against Bottineau, downing the Stars by a 87-29 count.
Brenden accounted for nearly half of the Stars’ scoring in Minot. She finished the game with 14 points as well as seven rebounds and four assists.
BHS (6-6) is hardly less busy this week. The Stars will host Sawyer on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before visiting Rugby on Friday.
