The Westhope-Newburg (W-N) boys’ basketball team is still looking for its first win of the 2014-15 season following a pair of losses last week.
The Sioux visited St. John last Monday and struggled in an eventual 81-48 loss to the Woodchucks. St. John jumped out to a 48-31 halftime lead and then pulled even further away
Chance Kitzman led W-N in scoring against the Woodchucks with 13 points, and he also posted three rebounds, two steals and as many assists.
W-N then hosted Kenmare on Thursday in Newburg. Home comforts didn’t end up counting for much, though, as the Sioux dropped a 61-42 decision.
The Sioux jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the game’s first quarter, but a 22-point second frame for Kenmare turned the game on its head.
Kitzman again led W-N with 13 points against the Honkers.
W-N (0-7) visited Sawyer on Monday after press time. The Sioux visit Rugby tonight and will host Stanley on Friday in Westhope at 7:15 p.m.
