When it rains, it pours.
Seldomly has that old saying ever held more truth than it has so far this season for the Bottineau-Rugby (B-R) boys’ hockey team.
The Braves’ offense puttered through B-R’s first three games of the season, but 16 of the team’s shots on goal last weekend found the back of the net.
B-R started out the final weekend of the Braves’ 2014 slate with a 9-2 win over Hazen-Beulah (H-B) on Friday in Rugby.
Luke Amsbaugh led the way against the North Stars by netting five goals. Austyn Lorenz had a five-point game against H-B, scoring twice and picking up three assists.
Casey Tooke also had a big night in picking up two goals and an assist.
B-R and Rugby native Ethan Clements had a solid outing on the Al Wentz Arena ice. He made 28 saves for the Braves in his and his team’s first win of the season.
The Braves then kept the good times rolling on Saturday when they defeated homestanding Williston 7-2. Noah Grant picked up three goals and an assist to lead the way for B-R.
Next up for B-R (2-3-0) is a two-game tournament in Wadena, Minn., on Jan. 2-3.
