It wasn’t always easy, but the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) women’s basketball team picked up another pair of wins last weekend.
Leech Lake (Minn.) was the Ladyjacks’ visitiors on Friday and Saturday in the Woodshed. The Lakers came away empty-handed, with DCB winning 94-41 on Friday night before struggling by comparison to an 82-68 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Friday’s result was almost never in doubt. DCB opened on a 17-4 run against the Lakers, led 52-16 at halftime and cruised to victory in the second half.
The Ladyjacks’ statistics were somewhat inflated on Friday against a Leech Lake team with only six available players. Imani Scott led DCB in scoring with 35 points, seven more than teammate Chelsea Frazier in second with 28.
Saturday provided much more of a struggle for the Ladyjacks. DCB had problems creating separation between itself and the Lakers in the rematch and only won by 14 points.
“Twenty hours can make quite a difference,” Ladyjacks head coach Wayne Johnson said. “We ran into a different Laker team today and we struggled a bit trying to respond.
“Defensively we were not as intense and purposeful as usual. We played a bit more on our heels and some of that can be attributed to their aggressive approach.”
DCB (10-2) will face Trinity Bible College on the road on Wednesday in the Ladyjacks’ final game before the holiday break.
