The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) men’s basketball team isn’t quite where its head coach would like it to be at this point in the season.
The Lumberjacks proved last weekend against Leech Lake (Minn.), however, that they’re undoubtedly on their way there.
DCB improved to 11-3 on the season after sweeping a two-game set against the Lakers. The Jacks ground out a 106-100 win in the series-opener on Friday night before winning 89-77 on Saturday afternoon.
Four DCB players finished Friday’s game with double-digits in the points column, and every point proved vital. The Jacks only led 55-51 at halftime before ekeing out the victory in a high-scoring clash.
DCB forward Keouvion McCalop led the home team with 30 points on the night. He also hit 12 of his 18 field goal attempts and picked up a team-high 11 rebounds and two blocks.
The Jacks had a relatively easier time on Saturday, although the Lakers again refused to go quietly. A 26-point performance from DCB guard Gilbert Carter saw his team through.
DCB head coach Brandon Colvin said he’s still searching for a full 40-minute performance from his team. He also said, though, that inroads are being made to that end.
“We still have an issue of playing 100 percent the whole 40 minutes,” he said, “Bbut it’s getting better. It’s just a matter of us keeping improving.”
DCB will face Trinity Bible College on the road on Wednesday in Ellendale, N.D. It will be the Lumberjacks’ final game of the 2014 calendar year.
