Newburg School Board held a special meeting on Friday morning to discuss the purchase of a lot near its public school to place housing on, which was passed unanimously by the board.
“The district has been looking at purchasing a lot to place a module home on for teacher housing,” said Jason Kersten, superintendent of the Newburg School District. “The district has been very fortunate to have the opportunity of our new hires to live in the apartment buildings in Newburg, but we felt this module will enable us to house a family, or possibly have two teachers share living quarters as the modular is a three bedroom two bath home.”
The cost of the lot is $1,500 and modular home will cost $71,884 for a total of $73,384. Kersten stated that 80 percent of the cost ($52,080) will be covered by a Department of Trust Lands’ grant through its Energy Infrastructure and Impact grant.
There is also a house on the property lot that will be razed, but the demolition fee isn’t known at this moment because the board is currently working on getting that fee acquired.
This isn’t the first time the Newburg School Board has purchased property for staff. The district currently has a house that the elementary principal lives in with his family. It was originally for the superintendent and his family, but when Kersten accepted his superintendent position with the Bottineau School District (in association with being the superintendent of the Newburg School District), he and his family moved to Bottineau.
The modular home project will be completed in the fall of 2015.
