First-year Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) volleyball coach Allison Scherr has sealed her first-ever recruiting commitment.

Hanna Hovland, a middle and right-side hitter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has pledged herself to DCB for the next two years.

The Canadian, who took a year off after graduating from Saskatoon’s Aden Bowman Collegiate Institute in 2013, will begin life as a Ladyjack next fall.

“Hanna is a huge addition to the team we are putting together for the 2015 season,” Scherr said. “She has height, skill and a love for the game of volleyball.  She has taken a year off of school since high school graduation, so she is eager to begin playing again and I am excited to have her.

“I am very anxious to see what next season will bring as there are going to be a lot of new faces in Ladyjacks uniforms.”

DCB struggled in its first season under Scherr, finishing with a 4-21 record in non-exhibition matches.

The Ladyjacks had a balanced roster in terms of players’ eligibility. Upon arrival in Bottineau, Hovland will take over for one of six sophomores on DCB’s 2014 volleyball team.

Six freshmen from this year’s team are also expected to return.
