MANITOU, Manitoba - The Bottineau U-19 girls hockey team took part in its final two preseason games on Sunday in Canada and skated to ties in both of them.

The Stars began play at a round-robin tournament in Melita, Manitoba against the host team, the Melita Bisons. The teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in which all four goals were scored in the third period.

After the Bisons opened the scoring, Erin Severson and Victoria Gullett both beat Melita goaltender Kennedy Wanless to give the Stars a 2-1 lead. The Bisons fought back, however, and tied the game at 2-2 with 3:56 left in regulation.

Bottineau again came away with just a point in its second game, a 1-1 tie against Rock Lake.

Rock Lake’s Katie Seymour opened the scoring at the 6:40 mark of the first period. The Stars’ Sonja Gilje salvaged a tie in the third period, however, when she put the puck past Rock Lake goalie Kendra Livingstone.

The Stars open regular season play on Saturday at both Wahpeton and nearby West Fargo.
