Bottineau High’s volleyball team landed one player on the All-Class B Region 6 team for the 2014 season, and she was honored again last week.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Brenden was named as the Stars’ most valuable player for the season that ended last month. The All-District 11 and All-Region 6 selection topped the list of BHS’s team awards for the 2014 campaign.

Brenden was a force to be reckoned with from the outside all season for the Stars. She finished her final season of high school volleyball with a team high 277 kills.

No other Star even came close to Brenden in that category. Junior outside hitter Paige Vad was a distant second with a more than respectable 176 kills last season.

Brenden also ended her senior campaign with 281 digs, 68 ace serves and 14 blocks.

Her time as a student-athlete at BHS is still far from over, however. Brenden is also a standout on the Stars’ girls’ basketball and track and field teams.

Junior middle blocker Jocelyn Jahner was named the Stars’ most improved player from last season. Jahner recorded 134 kills, 31 blocks, 27 digs and seven assists for BHS in its 2014 campaign.

Megan Fix, the Stars’ junior libero and defensive specialist, picked up the teams’ defensive player of the year award, while freshman Lexi Gullett was named BHS’s rookie of the year.

The Stars ended their 2014 season with a 16-19 overall record.
