The month of November was National DECA Month and Bottineau High School celebrated the month by co-sponsoring a food drive to provide food for those in our area who are hungry and cannot afford provisions.
“DECA, in conjunction with Student Council, did a food drive this month,” said Nate Simpson, advisor to Bottineau High School DECA organization. “This is the third year we have done this food drive. We turn it into a contest between classes at the high school. Grades nine through 12 compete against one another, and the seventh and eighth grades compete against each other.”
According to Kaytlyn Aufforth, student at Bottineau High School and the vice president of the state DECA Club, said that Bottineau’s DECA Club and Student Council collected 140 items, which they donated to the Bottineau Food Pantry.
The Bottineau Food Pantry will now utilize the food items to feed those individuals which are hungry in the local area. Granting food items to the pantry will assist a number of local individuals.
In October, 89 families, made up of 173 individuals, came to the food pantry seeking provisions. More shocking, of the 173 people seeking food, 81 of them were children, 51 were the elderly and 41 were adults.
By DECA and the Student Council’s donation, the students of Bottineau’s high school gave a priceless gift to those that find themselves hungry, especially during the holiday season.
