The staff of Northern Tier Federal Credit Union in Willow City will move into a new building in its city’s downtown business district in the near future, which is bringing enthusiasm to the employees of the financial institution for its patrons.

“We’re excited and the employees of the credit union are real anxious to get into something new and something that will allow them to serve the members better and grant them more privacy,” said Darrell Roos, president of Northern Tier Federal Credit Union in Minot.

“We can’t wait to open and serve our members out of the new building.”

The new building is currently being constructed in Washburn, N.D., by Dakota Custom Homes at the Wagon Wheel Lumberyard. The structure will be 1,008 square feet and will house a lobby, teller area, file room and two offices.

“The move comes due to a variety of reasons, and the new edifice will be located right next door to the current credit union building in the empty lot just west of its structure.

“The building that we are in is just getting beyond repair. So, we just decided that we needed something different and there wasn’t any buildings available so a new one was our only option,” Roos said.

“The new credit union will be considerably larger than what we have as far as the lobby area and the offices. The space we have in the new one is just a lot more useable.”

Roos stated that his goal was to have the new building open by the beginning of the new year, but with winter coming early it has closed down the majority of the area’s concrete companies, leaving the credit union without a foundation to place its structure, and perhaps a building until spring.

“We’re hoping for the first of the year, but with the cold snap in early November the credit union is having difficulty in getting the cement work improves in the near future we could be close to the goal of the first of the year; but, if the weather doesn’t cooperate the credit union will have to wait three to four months before opening.”

Shelley Vollmer, branch manager of Willow City’s Northern Tier Federal Credit Union, is pleased to be moving into a new building.

“It’s very exciting to me,” Vollmer said. “We will have a new building and it will be something new for the community.”
Vollmer added that it has been since the 1980s since a new building has been constructed on Willow City’s Main Street.

“We’re investing into the community,” Vollmer said. It’s a way to say that our community is not dying but progressing.”
