Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) freshman women’s basketball player Shania Brackenbury was named last week as the 2014 recipient of the Kevin Thom Scholarship.
The Thom Scholarship, a financial aid award worth $1,000, was set up by the family of the late Kevin Thom. Thom was a former basketball player for the college.
Brackenbury is a freshman guard on the Ladyjacks’ basketball team. A native of Mohall, she was a high school standout for Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (M-L-S) before signing with DCB last spring.
Brackenbury has quickly become a key player for the Ladyjacks. Through her first eight games, Brackenbury has averaged 36 minutes per game.
On Wednesday, Brackenbury accepted the scholarship award from Harriet Thom, Kevin Thom’s grandmother.
