BELCOURT - Imani Scott knows she has free reign to shoot the basketball for Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) from pretty much wherever on the court she wants.
Her 38-point performance on Wednesday against Turtle Mountain Community College proved that that isn’t likely to change any time soon.
The sophomore Ladyjacks guard from Akron, Ohio accounted for half of her team’s points in DCB’s 76-61 win over the Mikinocks on Wednesday in Belcourt.
She was lethal from all over, hustling inside for points down low and hitting several three-point shots from even beyond the men’s arc on the floor.
She also led the Ladyjacks in assists with five and picked up seven rebounds and four steals.
“I don’t know what else you can say about Imani after a game like that,” DCB head coach Wayne Johnson said, “She just let her play do all the talking.
“Thirty-eight points is pretty big against anyone, and it seemed like she was hitting shots from back home in Ohio at times once she got over the half-way line. She’s got form, and with the dynamic scorer that she is, I’m not going to criticize her for shooting from everywhere like she does.”
Speaking after the game, Scott remained team-focused. Instead of talking about her own performance, she hailed the Ladyjacks’ teamwork that boosted their record on the season to 3-0.
“I feel like this was our most complete game of the season, and it had to be,” Scott said. “The competition was a little tougher than we’d had before, and we had much more of a challenge with Belcourt than we did in our first couple of games.”
Fellow sophomore guard Chelsea Frazier also came up big against the Mikinocks. Frazier ended the game with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
The Ladyjacks’ shooters were arguably most deadly on Wednesday from the perimeter. DCB hit 10 of its 18 three-point shots on the night.
Turtle Mountain out-rebounded DCB 38-36 but couldn’t parlay that advantage into another at the other end.
