MINOT - Bottineau High’s 2014 volleyball season ended on Monday following a 3-0 loss to Minot Bishop Ryan at the Class B Region 6 tournament.

These two teams had met once before this year, with Bishop Ryan winning in straight sets in Minot on Sept. 9. The rematch wasn’t different enough for Bottineau’s liking, as the Stars were again swept (25-13, 25-14, 25-11) by the Lions.

Thanks to the quarterfinal win over Bottineau, Bishop Ryan moved on to face Our Redeemer’s in one of Tuesday’s regional semifinal matches. Our Redeemer’s defeated Newburg-Westhope (N-W) 3-0 earlier on Monday afternoon.

The winner of the Region 6 championship, which will be decided on Thursday, will move on to the Class B state tournament next week at Minot State University.

Bottineau finished the season with a 16-19 record. Consistency had been an issue all year, but BHS head coach Steve Dunrud was proud of what his team accomplished over  the second half of the campaign.

“The girls can have a lot to be proud of from this season,” Dunrud said. “Finishing second in our district was a good accomplishment and making it to regionals from there, and that’s always special no matter what the year is.

“The girls coming back (next season) got a taste of what it’s like to play at regionals, and our seniors know they can hold their heads high.”

BHS loses three seniors: Stephanie Brenden, Kennedy Olson and Taisyn Rodriguez.
